Taking the stage as a Musician-Co Owner of Groupmuse

I’m still mentally processing this news;

At first glance, Groupmuse is an online platform where hosts and musicians organize concerts (which we call "groupmuses") in non-traditional spaces, such as living rooms, backyards, church basements, and public parks.

But ask any long-time groupmuser, and you’ll learn that Groupmuse is about so much more.  It’s about closing your eyes and being transported during a particularly powerful passage of music in spaces that connect you to yourself, your local community, and the world.

I have been a Groupmuse roster musician for 9 years. It is a global community bonded through live performance of historically-rooted music.

I say this every Groupmuse- that the closest I can get to my most authentic artistic expression is in those spaces.

When Groupmuse announced they were becoming a musician-owned cooperative, I put in an application and a few rounds of emails and zoom meetings later I can say I co-own a company!

What does that mean? I am at the forefront of cultivating this community. Groupmuse pivoted rapidly to online live-streaming in the pandemic and are slowly transitioning back to the empire of live in-person grassroots events.

How can YOU get involved?

*Become a Groupmuse Host:

Be it in your living room, backyard, library- anything! Student flats and penthouses are equally welcome spaces (Groupmuses early days were mostly in NYC millenial student flats- really no space is too small or not fancy enough!). Visit groupmuse.com/host to learn how it works and we’ll walk you through comprehensive steps to setting up your next Groupmuse.

*Attend a Groupmuse:

Visit Groupmuse.com and enter your zip code to see what’s going on in your area! Concerts range from a night out at the Boston Symphony to house concerts, social clubs, and really it could be anything! I’m always blown away by the creativity of this community.
