The string orchestra, with its incredible range and blended sonority, has always enticed composers to explore its exciting possibilities and to compose some of their best music. Mozart’s elegant nighttime serenade (Eine kliene Nachtmusik), Shostakovich’s anguished pleas against war (Chamber Symphony, Op.110A) and Tchaikovsky’s energetic, dance-infused Serenade combine for a memorable afternoon of great music making. *A reception with complimentary refreshments follows this concert.
